On-Site Training

The Institute provides on-site professional development for a wide variety of agencies including child-care providers, Head Start, childcare licensing specialists, child welfare specialists, public school teachers and administrators, Smart Start, parents and extended family. We have developed our professional development packages as well as numerous other trainings that are specifically tailored to meet the needs of different types of organizations.

Creating Effective Learning Environment

This is a 20-hour professional development module designed to teach:

  • The importance of relationship based care
  • Creating home-like environments for young children, mainly 3 to 5 year olds
  • Designing the daily schedule
  • The importance of routines and transitions
  • The organization and implementation of 8 basic interest centers: art, blocks, dramatic play, library, manipulatives, science, math and music

This module is helpful to those who are preparing for QRS or accreditation.

Early Learning Guidelines

This is a 16-hour professional development module designed to teach:

  • The importance of early learning guidelines for children from 3 to 5 years old
  • Accurate interpretation of the guidelines
  • Using the early learning guidelines for curriculum development
  • Documentation of early learning guidelines in lesson plans

This module is adaptable in addressing the early learning guidelines for your state.

Theoretical Foundations of Child Development

This module introduces early childhood professionals to theories of child development and early learning that inform best practices. Topics include:

  • The importance of early learning guidelines
  • Accurate interpretation of the guidelines
  • Using the early learning guidelines for curriculum development
  • Documentation of early learning guidelines in lesson plans
  • Behaviorist theory
  • Accurate interpretation of the guidelines
  • Attachment theory
  • Development of Self Regulation
  • Constructivist theory
  • Ecological theory
This module can be customized to meet your needs. The complete training is 40 hours but it can be condensed to an 8 hour or 16 hour training.
